Cette fois, vingtcinq ans aprs la mort de son ami, il afini par accepter de livrer "son" Brassens, un Brassens familier voire intime, que l'on dcouvre ou redcouvre, de Ste Basdorf, de l'anonymat la clbrit, de l'Olympia Bobino. Son secrtaire assiste en tmoin privilgi la naissance de ses chansons, l'accompagne en tourne, conduit sa voiture, rpond au courrier et au tlphone, gre ses ditions, bref le dcharge des soucis pratiques et aide ainsi la cration d'une oeuvre considrable.Jacques Vassal, qui a recueilli ce tmoignage, replace chaque anecdote, chaque souvenir dans le contexte de la carrire du chanteur, et celleci dans l'Histoire tout court.
