One of the hazards of working with an archive the size and scope of the Frith Collection is that you are daily confronted with historical photographs in their thousands ... Compiling and writing this book has given me an opportunity to reacquaint myself with some of my favourite photographs from the archive...I have taken considerable licence with dates. Although the title of this book is British Life A Century Ago, I have included images taken up until the 1940s where I felt that there was a continuity of behaviour, such as in farming practices or the working methods of a particular craft ... from the Foreword

I really like this collection, but it felt a bit overpriced for what you get. The quality is good, and the historical context is fascinating, but I wish there were a few more images included. Worth a look if you’re into history or photography.

Good but expected more diversity
While the Francis Frith Collection has some beautiful images, I was hoping for more variety in the subjects shown. There are some great scenes, but a few more everyday life moments would’ve been nice. Still, a nice coffee table book!

A Fascinating Look Back in Time
The images in this collection are absolutely stunning! I bought it as a gift for my dad, who loves history, and he couldn't stop flipping through the pages. The quality of the prints is fantastic and really captures life in Britain a century ago.

Disappointed with Condition
I received my book with some pages slightly damaged, which was disappointing. The images are lovely, but I expected better packaging for delivery. Hope my next order comes in better shape!
