Es ist deshalb dringend notwendig, besonders begehrte Arten zu schtzen und ihren Fortbestand in den Heimatgebieten sicherzustelllen. In einem neuen Kapitel ber Schutzmanahmen bei Tillandsien wird das dargelegt. Die dritte Auflage des Buches wurde unter anderem auch dazu benutzt, einen Teil der bisherigen Bilder durch neue zu ersetzen und weitere ergnzend einzufgen. So konnten jetzt einige der erst krzlich beschriebenen Tillandsien aufgenommen werden. Von den heute bekannten rund 2000 Bromelienarten sind wenigstens 500 kulturwrdige Zimmerpflanzen. Wenn die Kul Iturtechnik weiterhin Fortschritte macht, werden sich die Grtner und Liebhaber in Zukunft noch an vielen neuen Bromelien erfreuen knnen.
