Wenn in ptolemaischen Papyri Angaben in Bronzegeld gemacht werden, ist es bislang nicht moglich, diese Summen in dem uns erhaltenen ptole maischen Bronzegeld darzustellen. Die Nominale der ptolemaischen Bronze miinzen sind unbekannt, auch die chronologische Einordnung der Miinzen ist schwierig. Wolfram Weiser hat in einem Buch, das gesondert erscheinen wird, den Versuch unternommen, Entwicklung und Aufbau der ptolemaische 1 Bronzewahrung zu rekonstruieren. Parallel zu diesem numismatischen Ver such sind die folgenden papyrologischen Beitrage entstanden. Die Papyri liefern neben den Miinzen wichtige Hinweise zur Rekonstruk tion der Entwicklung der ptolemaischen Wahrung. So lassen sich aus den in den Papyri liberlieferten Preisen, Lohnen und Preisangaben flir den Stater (die Tetradrachme in Silber) Riickschliisse auf die Wahrungsentwicklung 2 3 ziehen. Solche Angaben haben F. Heichelheim und T. Reekmans systema tisch gesammelt und genutzt. Unser Versuch schreitet auf dieser Bahn fort, und so finden sich, auf neuen Stand gebracht, die entsprechenden Listen von Reekmans im Anhang wieder. Ausgewertet wurden auBerdem die in ptole maischen Vertragen liberlieferten Strafgelder (rnlttl.w.), an denen auch Ver anderungen im Wahrungssystem ablesbar sind. Verstarkt wurden auch die demotischen Papyri herangezogen und mit den griechischen verglichen.
