MVVAs 23year story of transforming 85 acres of Brooklyn waterfront into parkland that reconnects New Yorkers to the East RiverReclaimed from 1.3 miles of New Yorks postindustrial waterfront, Brooklyn Bridge Park is a place for escape, recreation, and immersion in the natural world. Transforming parking lots and crumbling piers into a living ecosystem, the project is an exemplar of climate resilience, fiscal innovation, and joyful public space. This book examines MVVAs process of designing a park that went from a remote possibility to an essential part of the city around it.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with Brooklyn Bridge Park. While the design looks good on paper, I found some areas had poor maintenance, which took away from the experience. I expected better given the reputation of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.

A stunning piece of architecture
The Brooklyn Bridge Park design by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates is just breathtaking. I’ve spent countless afternoons there, and the layout truly enhances the beauty of the waterfront. The landscaping is lush, providing a serene escape right in the city!

Great park but a bit crowded
I love Brooklyn Bridge Park, but it can get a little too crowded on weekends. The design is fantastic, and I appreciate how well it incorporates nature. Just be prepared to share the space with a lot of other visitors.
