Throughout the years, the monastery has offered men a spiritual life of work and prayer in the Benedictine tradition of the 'primitive observance,' and has welcomed guests of all faiths to join the brothers in chanting the prayers of the Divine Offices. As Abbot Philip Lawrence notes in his foreword, this book is the story of 'the joys and sorrows, agonies and ecstasies, setbacks and accomplishments of our monastery.'
