Seventeenthcentury France saw the application of the new spirit of exploration and analysis to matters of the soul. Pierre de Brulle, John Eudes, JeanJacques Olier and Mother Madeleine de SaintJoseph left an indelible mark on the history of Christian spirituality in the West.
