In 1968, nineteenyearold Gene Dark joined the Marine Corps at the height of the Vietnam War. The horrors of combat quickly transformed the young man into a hardened soldier. This memoir provides a gritty and revealing look at the true agonies of war as experienced in the murky jungles of Vietnam.

Brutality of War is a hard-hitting memoir that really captures the chaos of Vietnam. I appreciated the author's honesty and vivid descriptions; it felt like I was right in the middle of those intense moments. This book is a must-read for anyone wanting to understand the realities of war.

Engaging but Heavy at Times
I found the memoir engaging and insightful, but some parts were quite heavy to get through. The author's experiences are intense, and while it's important to share these stories, I sometimes felt overwhelmed. Still, I think it’s worth reading for its historical perspective.

Not What I Expected
I had high hopes for this memoir, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. A couple of chapters felt repetitive and the flow was off in places. I still appreciate the effort and the important stories told, but I wanted a bit more depth in some sections.
