August 1999 an der Niederschsischen Staats und Universittsbibliothek Gttingen das Projekt der Digitalisierung des Gttinger Exemplars der GutenbergBibel offiziell gestartet. Die Gttinger GutenbergBibel ist frei im Internet zugnglich. Gutenberg digital nennt sich dieses Projekt. Seit dem 23. Juni 2000 ist die gesamte Gttinger GutenbergBibel im Internet abrufbar. Dies ist nur eines der zahlreichen Projekte, die sich der Digitalisierung von Bchern und ihrer Verbreitung ber das Internet annehmen. Bcher gab es schon lange vor der Etablierung des Buchdrucks. Im 15. Jahrhundert erfand Gutenberg den Druck mit beweglichen Lettern und schuf somit das Massenmedium Buch. Oft wird das Buch gar nicht als Medium begriffen, obwohl es doch ber Jahrhunderte hinweg als wichtiges Kulturmedium seine Bedeutung hatte, ja sogar das 'kulturelle Leitmedium' darstellte. In dieser Arbeit werde ich mich mit dem Buch als Medium unserer Gesellschaft beschftigen und die Entwicklung der Buchkultur ber die Jahrhunderte darstellen.
