Product DescriptionThese are mostly lyric poems. They call up a childhood spent among Swedish immigrants. They wrestle with memories of love, marriage, hope and loss. They take on spirituality, politics, even retirement. These poems well up out of real life with children, blind students, and injured veterans back from our seemingly endless wars. There is no way to miss the embodied yearning, if not protest, in this poetry. These poems are meant for the ear and should be spoken to be really heard. And if they take you to places you have not been before, they will not leave you stranded there.About the AuthorDuane Christianson grew up in Rockford, Illinois. He was drawn to poetry in high school, especially lyric American, British, Swedish, even some translations from the Hungarian. He holds a B.A. in English from Principia College, an M.A., and all coursework in English for the doctorate from the University of Illinois. He has worked variously as a college English teacher, a piano tunertechnician, a secretarytranscription typist, and a job placement counselor for the blind. He spent decades making computers accessible to blind people who need to communicate, keep jobs or to gain employment. Most recently, he worked for the Veterans Administration at Hines Hospital training blind veterans as well as activeduty service personnel to use computers. He lives in Oak Park, Illinois.
