In Los Angeles in 1926, Ayn Rand met American film maker Cecil B. DeMille, who gave her a job reviewing books for possible film adaptations. Among the titles he gave her was a bestseller about a contractor trying to build a grain elevator outside of Chicago. The novel, Calumet "K", sparked Rand's thought that at perhaps no other time or place in history could a single man take on the financial and human obstacles that Calumet's protagonist, Charlie Bannon, facedand still have a realistic chance at winning. Wayzgoose Press is proud to publish the first new edition of Calumet "K" since 1901. This special edition corrects printing errors and linguistic inconsistencies in the original edition, providing modern readers with a fascinating and accessible look at how an American businessman met workplace challenges in 1900.
