Product Description When a group of children set up a summer camp in a neighborhood backyard, Gina, the elevenyearold director, must keep the campers happy and solve the mystery of the ghost in a nearby cabin. From Publishers Weekly Gina and Carrie begin their summer by turning an old cabin in Gina's backyard into Camp Kickapoo. Carrie is convinced the cabin is haunted ('This place gives me the creeps'), though her friend will have none of it ('You're crazy'). But Gina has second thoughts when things mysteriously disappear and the girls hear an angry voice and begin receiving strange messages. For the most part, Gondosch fails to invest her many characters with distinctive personalities; consequently much of her dialogue and the characters' reactions seem artificial and unbelievable. Though the (slowly) unfolding mystery here might initially entice readers, its resolution is disappointingly ordinary. Ages 911. Copyright 1993 Reed Business Information, Inc. From the Back Cover Author Linda Gondosch's books are often based on what she has observed in her own backyard. CAMP KICKAPOO is based in part on the summer Ms. Gondosch's daughter Lisa held a camp for the children in their neighborhood. Like Gina and her friends, they dug a latrine in the woods and tried to grind grain into bread and bake it on hot rocks. Linda Gondosch has written many popular books for children. She and her husband live in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. They have four children. Patricia Henderson Lincoln, who has illustrated many books for children, lives in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
