The 58th edition is only available spiral bound! For the 57th edition, the first year for spiral binding, we made available to collectors both perfect bound, the classic binding used for the last 50 years, and spiral bound catalogues. Although all perfect bound copies were sold, this did not happen until all spiral bound books were sold out. Clearly, collectors prefer spiral binding. The 58th edition (2004) has three major additions:First: We have added a 40page section on varieties, a category which has been promised for many years. The CharltonZoell section is the first step in the concept of adding 40 new pages on varieties to each of the next five succeeding editions, until we have built up 200 or more pages on Canadian coin varieties. In this manner a new CharltonZoell Variety Catalogue will emerge. There are over 400 variety classifications that will be dealt with over this five year period. A great deal of research must be done on coin varieties in Canada to clarify and to educate the dealers and collectors on the many different categories. Equally important is the value of each category. It would be ideal to avoid a repeat of the 1960s variety bubble.Second: The portrait varieties of Victorian Newfoundland are now illustrated for all denominations. With this edition we have now completed the Victorian portrait varieties for Canada and Newfoundland allowing the collector the opportunity to identify and catalogue this historical period.Third: We have priced the Victorian portraits. This is a first for Canadian cataloguing. Using the Population Report produced by I.C.C.S. (International Coin Certification Service) as a base to determine the rarity, values have been assigned to each date/portrait in the Victoria series. This is an ongoing project and each successive edition will fine tune the pricing process. As for the standard fair, all prices have been reviewed and revised, all mintage numbers added or adjusted where needed, and new issues from the Royal Canadian Mint have been added bringing the 58th edition current to 2003. The 'Standard Coin' all 440 pages, is truly the bible of Canadian Coins.
