Als Katalog zur WeberAusstellung der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin Preussischer Kulturbesitz zur Jahreswende 2001/2002 erschien in Zusammenarbeit mit den beiden Arbeitsstellen der WeberGesamtausgabe (Berlin und Detmold) diese umfangreiche Dokumentation zum Opernschaffen Webers, die alle OpernProjekte des Komponisten anhand wesentlicher Quellen chronologisch vorstellt. In den erlauternden Texten wurde neben grundlegenden Informationen zu jedem Werk besonders darauf Wert gelegt, handbuchartig den neuesten Forschungsstand darzustellen. Gerade in den letzten Jahren hat sich, beginnend mit den Aktivitaten des WeberGedenkjahres 1986 und gefordert durch die Arbeit an der WeberGesamtausgabe, die Sicht auf Weber von der einseitigen Betrachtung der "Grosswerke", besonders naturlich des Freischutz, hin zu einer Gesamtschau verlagert, die insbesondere zu den ehemals vernachlassigten Kompositionen eine Fulle neuer Erkenntnisse brachte.Die Auswahl der Objekte ermoglicht nicht nur einen umfassenden Uberblick uber Webers Hinterlassenschaft fur das Musiktheater, uber Vorlagen, Textautoren, Entstehungsbedingungen, die zeitgenossische Rezeption etc.; sie gewahrt daneben auch interessante Einblicke in die Werkstatt des Komponisten, den Prozess des Komponierens. Alle Stadien des Entstehungsprozesses eines Buhnenwerks, von der textlichen und musikalischen Konzeption uber die Arbeit am Libretto, die kompositorische Entwurfs und schliesslich die Ausarbeitungs und Instrumentationsphase werden mittels ausgewahlter Zeugnisse nachvollziehbar. Insbesondere zu den spaten Opern, den unvollendeten Drei Pintos, der Euryanthe und Oberon, ist die Arbeit am Werk durch eine Fulle unterschiedlicher Materialien dokumentiert.Zusatzlich zu ausfuhrlichen Katalogbeschreibungen der 133 Objekte aus Bibliotheken und Sammlungen in Berlin, Darmstadt, Dresden, St. Petersburg sowie aus Privatbesitz mit insgesamt 59 Abbildungen runden zwei umfangreiche Beitrage uber den Opernkomponisten Weber bzw. zur WeberIkonographie sowie ein Epilog im Gedenken an den 175. Todestag des Komponisten den Katalog ab.
