This book is a collection of independent essays and as such it is hard to rate. The individual essays vary drastically in quality but in general the longer essays are the better ones, hence the high rating. I think the book is very much worth reading for anyone interested in the relevance of the contemplative life for today or in the mystical theology of John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila who both feature heavily in multiple essays.
