Product Description An introduction to castles, describing how and why they were built and how they were attacked and defended. From School Library Journal Grade 35 An attractive book about a popular topic. With large type and many halfpage color photographs and illustrations, the text is surprisingly detailed, especially the section on How Castles Were Built.'' However, the section on Castles Around the World'' lacks maps and does not provide extensive background information on the castles mentioned. Brochard's Castles of the Middle Ages (Silver Burdett, 1981; o.p.) gives more detailed information on medieval castles. Sancha's The Castle Story (Crowell, 1982), encyclopedic in its depth of coverage, is for a much older audience. Macaulay's Castle (Houghton, 1977) has detailed drawings and informative text showing the planning and construction of a typical 13thCentury castle. Eunice Weech, M. L.
