Fascinating history of the logging railroads of northern Arizona. Col. James W. Eddy began the process with the Arizona Mineral Belt Railroad, intended to bridge the gap between the SP at Tucson and the Atlantic & Pacific (SF) at Needles, California but which went bankrupt. The Central Arizona Railroad purchased the assets and began to haul timber to the Flagstaff mill. This book provides not only a detailed explanation of the various logging railroads that worked the northern pine forests of Arizona but also the fruitless efforts by management over the years to expand the railroad into a major line. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. With rosters, maps, and bibliography and decorative end papers showing map of railroads in the Coconino National Forest. 101 pages.
