About the Author Georges Simenon nat Lige le 13 fvrier 1903.Aprs des tudes chez les jsuites, il devient, en 1919, apprenti ptissier, puis commis de librairie, et enfin reporter et billettiste La Gazette de Lige. Il publie en souscription son premier roman, Au pont des Arches, en 1921 et quitte Lige pour Paris. Il se marie en 1923 avec "Tigy", et fait paratre des contes et des nouvelles dans plusieurs journaux. Le roman d'une dactylo, son premier roman "populaire", parat en 1924 sous pseudonyme. Jusqu'en 1930, il publie contes, nouvelles et romans chez diffrents diteurs.En 1931, le commissaire Maigret commence ses enqutes... On tourne les premiers films adapts de l'oeuvre de Georges Simenon. Il alterne romans, voyages et reportages, et quitte son diteur Fayard pour les ditions Gallimard o il rencontre Andr Gide.Durant la guerre, il est responsable des rfugis belges La Rochelle et vit en Vende. En 1945, il migre aux tatsUnis. Aprs avoir divorc et s'tre remari avec Denyse Ouinet, il rentre en Europe et s'installe dfinitivement en Suisse.La publication de ses oeuvres compltes (72 volumes !) commence en 1967. Cinq ans plus tard, il annonce officiellement sa dcision de ne plus crire de romans.Georges Simenon meurt Lausanne en 1989.
