Mit dem vor allem wirtschaftspolitisch motivierten Postulat der Informa tionsgesellschaft verbinden Befiirworter die Sicherung der intemationalen Konkur renzfahigkeit, Rationalisierung aufwendiger Arbeitsprozesse, gro6ere Flexibilitat im betrieblichen Handeln, die ErschlieBung von Informationen als Ware, Plan und Steuerbarkeit okonomischer und sozialer Entwicklungen. Demgegeniiber warnen Kritiker vor sozialen und politischen Kosten der Technik wie technikinduzierte Mas senarbeitslosigkeit, Uberwachungsstaat, sinnentleerte Arbeit, Verooung menschli cher Kommunikation, AushOhlung von Selbstbestimmung, dem 'glasemen' Mitar beiter und BUrger und einer Durchdringung aller Lebensbereiche mit dem Prinzip technischokonomischer Effizienz. Ausdruck dieser Positionen sind einerseits der massive und zum Teil gemeinsame Ausbau informationstechnischer Infrastrukturen durch Staat und Privatwirtschaft, andererseits Protestaktionen gegen die Technikan wendung vom Druckerstreik bis zum Volkszahlungsboykott Die kritische wissenschaftliche, gewerkschaftliche und offentliche Auseinander setzung mit Technikfolgen hat bewirkt, daB Forderungen nach einer sozial sinn vollen Technikgestaltung mittlerweile auch in regierungsund parteipolitischen Kon zepten unterschiedlichster Provenienz befiirwortet werden Begriffe wie soziale Be herrschbarkeit, Sozialvertriiglichkeit, Sozialorientierung werden dabei allerdings oft nur als Schlagworte eingesetzt, urn fiir ungebremste Technikentwicklung und anwendung die gewiinschte 'Akzeptanz' zu erzielen. Die vorliegende Arbeit will sich demgegeniiber mit der Umsetzbarkeit von Technikgestaltungsansatzen befassen, die von einer gesellschaftlich steuerbaren und an Kriterien sozialer und politi scher Wiinschbarkeit orientierten Technikentwicklung und anwendung ausgehen. Die Durchsetzbarkeit derartiger Ansatze erweist sich als Problem in Technikentschei dungsprozessen, so daB den immer dringender geforderten Gestaltungsaltemativen droht, auf der Ebene programmatischer Anspriiche steckenzubleiben.
