All of the states involved in the fracturing technology have serious issues with water contamination. Unlike the Plains states, New York has an abundance of fresh water with many lakes and streams and waterfalls. The state has not yet made the leap to largescale hydrofracking, but the stage is set for serious confrontation. The author cites not only basic values at stake, but 'a better way' through more patient reliance on the natural world, Native American example, and science of artificial intelligence. About the Author Dr. John Hunter served in higher education for 46 years, including college presidencies in Illinois,New York,Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He also served as onsite consultant for the development of InstitutoTechnologicoCentroAmericano in El Salvador. In 2005 he was selected as outstanding college president by Phi Theta Kappa International. Prior to being college president he taught history and government and was a college dean. Previous publications include Values and the Future:Models of Community College Development(1977),Letters to Young Friends(1993),Poet Unbound(2008),Reading Yeats and Striving to Be a College President(2011) and Chasing Crazy Horse: A Wasichu Interpretation of the Lakota Tragedy(2012).Dr.Hunter resides with his wife, Lyla Beth Hunter, a well known gospel singer in Hornell,NY.
