Review "I love this book! It's light, joyous, wise and comprehensively insightful to every reader. It reminds us of what's good, important, and meaningful." Mark Victor Hansen, coauthor, #1 New York Times Bestselling series Chicken Soup for the Soul Product Description Today's environmentally conscious families are always looking for books which will help awaken earth awareness in their young children. Children of the Earth, with its bright, stirring and lighthearted illustrations, takes the child on an earth journey through the world of the senses. As the young reader voyages through many landscapes of our planet, the book invites them to discover their own connection to all life on earth. By appealing to the senses of sight, hearing, and feeling, Children of the Earth enables its readers to experience the harmony of the earth as a common homeland for all. From Publishers Weekly This inauspicious debut for author, illustrator and publisher begins by asking "the Children of the Earth," "Do you know, do you know/ that you glow?/ Do you know, do you know/ that you show/ all the colors of the rainbow!" The book asks children of the Forest, Garden, Mountain, Sea, Sky, Stars and Earth in turn what they see, feel and hear. The text poses 21 questions in all, then answers with an assortment of clich?s (e.g., "Children, children of the Forest/ What do you see?/ We see green trees swaying in the breeze"). The illustrations feature abstracted, faceless children with triangular legs cavorting gaily, arms outspread, set against hazy landscapes. While it purports to be a celebration of the natural world, the treatment is a bit too bland. Ages 18. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc. From the Publisher Our small publishing house in Kona, Hawaii, is dedicated to publishing books with "a Hawaiian spirit". The essence of the Hawaiian spirit reflects the values of peace, harmony, sharing, love and compassion, which are all encompassed in the deeper meaning of aloha. We sense a need to promote living in harmony with ourselves and our environment, creating a sustainable future for the generations to come. We have dedicated our work to expanding this "heart consciousness" and touching as many hearts and minds as possible. Children of the Earth, while not specifically Hawaiian in setting or text, nevertheless echoes the depth of the Hawaiian sense of being inextricably part of the earth, and at the same time responsible for its stewardship. From the Author The beauty of my book is simplicity, which makes it ideal for young children. It appeals to the senses of the reader by way of the poetic words and lively images. Children can relate to this book and incorporate their own experience and knowledge of the natural world. I intend the book to be a spark to ignite Earth awareness in children and adults alike. About the Author Amy Churba is a graduate of Antioch College in New England with a Masters Degree in Waldorf Education. In addition to her Waldorf training, she holds a public school certification for grades K8., and her experiences as a teacher fueled her desire to create Children of the Earth. These experiences range from private and public schools to leading workshops in intentional communities. She is a sculptor, drawer, painter and storyteller who has a true passion for creativity along with the ability to let the imagination grow and flow.
