Nach einer Bankausbildung studierte er Politische Wissenschaft, Sinologie und Volkswirtschaftslehre an der Universitt Kiel sowie Internationale Beziehungen an der Universitt von Hull (Grobritannien). An der Universitt Kiel beendete er sein Studium mit dem Magisterabschlu.
