Allein im Zeitraum von 2000 bis 2007 wuchs der chinesische Handel mit Afrika von ca. 11 Mrd. USD auf ca. 74 Mrd. USD an. Der Export aus Afrika in die VR steigerte sich zwischen 2000 und 2005 um durchschnittlich 48% pro Jahr und ist in erster Linie auf den Anstieg chinesischer Rohstoffimporte zurckzufhren, wobei der Import von Erdl mit Abstand die wichtigste Rolle spielt. Zudem haben chinesische lkonzerne ihre Direktinvestitionen in den afrikanischen lsektor in den letzten Jahren stark ausgeweitet. Whrend die chinesischen Nationalen lkonzerne 1995 in Afrika noch so gut wie keine Prsenz hatten, sind sie mittlerweile in einer Vielzahl von Projekten auf dem Kontinent aktiv. Seitdem China 1993 ein Nettoimporteur von Erdl geworden ist, verstrkten chinesische NOC ihre Suche nach neuen Bezugsquellen und nach Investitionsmglichkeiten in den lsektor anderer Staaten. Bei diesem Bestreben spielt Afrika eine besondere Rolle, da die lproduktion in Afrika weltweit am schnellsten wchst. Zudem gibt es dort noch viele unerschlossene lquellen und viele afrikanische Staaten heien, im Unterschied zu den meisten l exportierenden Staaten im Nahen Osten und in Lateinamerika, auslndische Investoren willkommen. Da auch fr andere Akteure afrikanische lressourcen eine immer wichtigere Rolle spielen sowie aufgrund des weltweiten Trends hin zu einem Energie und Ressourcennationalismus erscheinen Konflikte unausweichlich. Seit einigen Jahren wird Chinas ldiplomatie in westlichen Staaten zunehmend mit Sorge betrachtet.
