On July 27, 1947 Ted and Ruth Andrianoff and their two small children boarded a troop ship bound for Southeast Asia, two ordinary people headed for an unexpected role in an extraordinary display of God's power. Less than three years later, in a remote Laotian village, an influential shaman rented his haunted house to the missionaries. When the Andrianoffs were able to live there untroubled by the resident demons, word got out that their God must be more powerful than the gods of the Hmong. Within the next few years, thousands came to Christ. Then a cruel war disrupted the tranquil village life. Hundreds of thousands of Hmong were forced to flee to the refugee camps in Thailand . Many eventually migrated to the United States. On July 30, 2000, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 13,000 of the 28,000 Hmong who regularly worship at Christian and Missionary Alliance churches in North America met for an allday celebration. Missions had come full circle. Today Hmong Christians around the world trace their spiritual genealogy to the rebirth of that first convert in Xieng Khouang Province in 1950 and to a couple whose willing obedience allowed them to experience God's spectacular power. Author Jean Adrianoff is the daughterinlaw of Ted and Ruth Andrianoff. She and her husband, David, live in Penang, Malaysia, where she teaches at Dalat School.
