Este trabajo se ocupa del anlisis de la relacin de interdependencia que en las sociedades capitalistas democrticas se establece entre la economa y la poltica, prestando especial atencin al fenmeno de los ciclos econmicos de origen poltico. En la primera parte, aunque se revisa en detalle el ciclo econmico de origen poltico descrito por Michal Kalecki, la atencin preferente se dirige hacia los modelos desarrollados dentro del anlisis neoclsico de la interdependencia polticoeconmica, que explican cmo un Gobierno democrtico que busca alcanzar sus propios objetivos e intereses puede generar fluctuaciones cclicas en la economa. En la segunda parte del trabajo, se desarrolla un modelo que incorpora pautas de comportamiento de los agentes polticos, habituales en el anlisis neoclsico, a una estructura econmica caracterizada mediante un desarrollo terico alejado de los planteamientos habituales dentro del anlisis macroeconmico convencional, como es el de Goodwin. Por ltimo, se estiman diversas versiones de la funcin de reaccin fiscal en la que se basa nuestra aportacin terica, para el caso de los Gobiernos democrticos espaoles del perodo 19842001.
