La dificultad de la educacin intercultural radica principalmente en la falta de conocimiento de las culturas originarias por parte de los educadores tradicionales y la escasez de materiales didcticos. Esta investigacin propone una estrategia metodolgica que apoya el desarrollo de los conocimientos cientficos y valora el aporte a estos desde la cosmovisin mapuche. La temtica medioambiental es desarrollada mediante lminas bilinges y textos desde la perspectiva de la sociedad global y la cosmovisin mapuche. La realidad rural y urbano marginal de los estudiantes mapuche es que se encuentran sometidos a un sistema de educacin tradicional que no reconoce el aporte de su cultura al patrimonio de la nacin chilena; por ejemplo la presencia del mapudungun en la toponima geogrfica de Chile; en los nombres cientficos de plantas y animales; en la medicina campesina, etc. Uno de los aspectos ms relevantes de este libro lo constituyen los relatos y conocimientos aportados por profesores rurales y sabios mapuches, que entendiendo la necesidad de transmitir su saber a las futuras generaciones, lo han compartido en este texto.
