Der deutsche Germanist und Literaturhistoriker Berthold Litzmann (18571926) kannte Clara Schumann bereits aus seiner Kindheit und widmete ihr eine dreibndige Biografie. Im Auftrag Marie Schumann der Tochter von Clara Schumann bereitete er diese Ausgabe des Briefwechsels zwischen Clara Schumann und Johannes Brahms vor, die im Jahre 1926 kurz nach dem Tod des Herausgebers erschien. Trotz der durch die Schicksale entstandenen Unzulnglichkeit des Materials ist es meines Erachtens Professor Litzmann auf das Schnste gelungen, durch feinsinnige Auswahl ein Bild der fortlaufenden Beziehungen zwischen den beiden Freunden zu geben (Marie Schumann). Nachdruck der Originalausgabe aus dem Jahre 1927.
