Sein als beinahe makellos empfundenes Werk wird auch Literaturkritiker weit ber Frankreich hinaus noch viele Jahrzehnte beschftigen . Als Clines erster Roman 1932 erschien, erregte er ber die Grenzen Frankreichs hinaus Aufsehen und etablierte sich als renommierter Schriftsteller im literarischen Milieu. Die folgende Arbeit wird sich mit der Handlung in Clines Roman Voyage au bout de la nuit beschftigen. Hierbei wird vom Allgemeinen zum Besonderen vorgegangen. Daher muss in Kapitel 2.1 zuerst einmal der Handlungsbegriff und seine Geschichte genauer definiert werden. In diesem Kapitel werden auch die Bestandteile einer Handlung, wie zum Beispiel die Intrige oder der Konflikt, genauer untersucht. Gleichzeitig wird ein Querverweis zu Aristoteles und seiner Poetik angestellt. Der darauf folgende Teil dieser Arbeit (Kapitel 2.2) wird den Situationsbegriff und die Situationsstruktur genauer analysieren. Gibt es eine Logik beziehungsweise eine Folgerichtigkeit der Handlung? Warum handeln Menschen so wie sie es tun? Fr diese beiden Fragen sollen in diesem Kapitel Antworten gefunden werden. Das Kapitel 2.3 wird sich mit dem Episodenbegriff auseinandersetzen. Es soll analysiert werden, ob man in Clines Roman eher von Handlung oder von einer Episodenstruktur sprechen kann.
