Tirailleurs sngalais, Africains attirs par l'aventure, ils dbarquent dans le port de Marseille depuis prs d'un sicle. Convertis en tenanciers de bar, les 'marins coloniaux' ont t rejoints, dans les annes 1970, par les colporteurs musulmans du Sngal, les Mourides, et, plus rcemment, par des migrants d'Afrique forestire 'Nana Benz' et autres aventuriers spcialiss dans la restauration et la coiffure. Au fil des gnrations, ils s'installent dans la ville de la Fosse, ancien quartier accol au port, Noailles, nouveau centre des affaires, en passant par Belsunce, o s'est structur peu peu le 'Petit Harlem' marseillais. Bien que ces quartiers fassent l'objet d'oprations de rhabilitation, ils restent porteurs d'une mmoire collective. Aujourd'hui, le coeur de la cit phocenne est devenu un carrefour d'Afrique, point d'ancrage d'un dispositif transnational. Longtemps occulte, la figure de l'entrepreneur migrant africain traverse pourtant l'histoire marseillaise depuis prs d'un sicle. Elle est dcline ici travers plus de dix portraits : Ahmadou le restaurateur, qui accueille les joueurs de tierc ; Vincent, un des derniers dockers noirs de Marseille ; Daouda, ngociant importexport en produits cosmtiques ; Francine la cuisinire militante... Ils racontent la vie quotidienne dans les boutiques, les arrangements commerciaux entre ici et lbas, les comptitions et les collaborations avec la socit locale.
