Se evalo eficacia y seguridad de un colutorio a base de compuestos fenlicos, aceite esencial y dioxidano realizando un ensayo clnico para medirlas. Se utilizo un modelo de formacin de placa microbiana, gingivitis y seguridad de tratamiento en un perodo de cuatro das, como control positivo se uso un colutorio de clorhexidina al 0,12%. Participaron 26 sujetos en un estudio doble ciego cruzado y con distribucin aleatoria. El colutorio en base a compuestos fenolicos, aceite esencial y dioxidano y el de clorhexidina, tuvieron un similar efecto en el control de la formacin de placa y antigingvitis. No hubo diferencias entre los acontecimientos adversos observados para el colutorio y el control pero mayores para clorhexidina. Por consiguiente el colutorio en estudio podra ser una alternativa para el control qumico de la placa microbiana y gingivitis en el tratamiento de la enfermedad periodontal.
