The author was commissioned in 1917 and assigned to Fort Ethan Allen. There he assumed command of Troop F, remaining with it through WW1. In WW2 he was commander of two famed armored divisions and played major role in the following battles: Tunis, Bizerte, Cassino, Anzio, and the Battle of the Bulge.
