Piracy is an old age crime in the high seas whose recent rising occurences threatens maritime security in the Indian Ocean. In the current globalised society, piracy disrupts economic activities, threatens human security, and contributes significantly to different types of conflict between states.Consequently, the international community has been grappling with different ways of dealing with the crime of piracy including use of force, prosecution,and coercive diplomacy. Unlike in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the Indian Ocean lacks effective maritime security to ward of pirates. In this book, Patrick Maluki and David Okwomba examine the various strategies adopted by the international community to combat the new forms of piracy in the Indian Ocean.
