From the Author Written in collaborationwith fellow Christians, John Dennis and Ron Miner, this book was a joy to create. We were all involved with the First Presbyterian Church in beautiful Corvallis, Oregon. John served as pastor from 19692006 and Ron performed weekly children's sermons for years. I attended there from 197982 while earning my graduate degree at Oregon State University.In a moment of synergy,I approached John to ask if the church might make use my cartooning and illustration talents and he immediately hit upon the idea of the three of us collaborating to produce a book highlight's Ron's many sermons.Unfortunatelythe sermons had never been recorded or even written down in a formal sense. Ron had created notes to guide his efforts and these were, literally, written on napkins and Postit notes and file cards or any other paper that came to hand. With a background in education, I was able to reconstruct the sermons in a lesson plan format and add illustrations. John added appropriate Biblical resources and book one was born. The titleCome Sit With Merefers to the invitation Ron issued each Sunday morning: "Will the children of the congregation come sit with me." We went on to produce three more books together. DonPaul Benjamin is a researcher for student services at Northern Arizona University. He is also a freelance author and cartoonist. (Benjamin is now retired and working as a mystery writer and journalist in Western Colorado.) Ron Miner is professor of agricultural engineering at Oregon State University in Corvallis and has been responsible for children's sermons in his church for fifteen years. (Miner died in 2004. His obituary noted: "He presented the children's message for more than 30 years at First Presbyterian Church and was the author of three books of children's sermons.") About the Author D.P. Benjamin is a Colorado native, journalist, illustrator, and mystery novelist.
