Suppression of freedom to be communicated to and expression was one of the major malpractices of the apartheid regime in South Africa. In addition to the measures enacted by the democratic Government of South Africa to ensure freedom of expression and access to information, South African organisations have also realized the importance of effective communication to the organisation's success. However, many of these organisations still encounter numerous challenges in communicating to their highly diversified workforce. This study explores the communication challenges faced by Spier, one of South Africa's organisations formed just after the demise of the apartheid regime. Possible suggestions have also been made to improve communication within the organisation.
