Product Description Community and Communitarianism presents and defends in detail a carecentered ideal of a good and moral community: a form of social organization imbued with the virtues of a carecentered ethic, such as cooperation (in teleological communities, cooperation in the realization of communal goals); mutual concern and solidarity; sympathy and empathy; benevolence; a spirit of sacrifice; and affection, love, and caring. It is argued that a carecentered ethic, hence a carecentered community, needs to be constrained and fortified by equal respect for the participants' basic human right to be treated as moral subjects, together with fair and just treatment. Besides contributing to social philosophy, the book contributes significantly to ethics. About the Author The Author: Haig Khatchadourian is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at The University of WisconsinMilwaukee. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University. In addition to numerous journal articles, he has published The Coherence Theory of Truth; A Critical Study in Method; The Concept of Art; Music, Film, and Art; Philosophy of Language and Logical Theory: Collected Papers; Shadows of Time (poetry); and The Morality of Terrorism (Peter Lang, 1998). Among his awards are an Andrew Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Liberal Arts Fellowship in Philosophy and Law from Harvard Law School. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts (FRSA) in England.
