Como la huella del pjaro en el aire es ese imaginario, porque para Bianciotti la memoria y la vida, es vacilante y movediza.Tras ms de veinticinco aos de ausencia, Hctor Bianciotti regresa a la tierra natal, Argentina, donde le esperan sus hermanos. La nacin homenajea al nio de la pampa que alcanz el xito en otro pas, en otra lengua. Y surgen, al filo de los reencuentros, emotivas historias, como la de Nilda, que le narra el anciano llamado la Iguana, o recuerdos de familia. Pero son los sentimientos y las reflexiones que ese viaje suscita los protagonistas de esta obra: el paso del tiempo, el destino de personas y cosas y, en fin, la muerte. Y si la muerte proyecta su sombra en el horizonte, como le recuerda alguien, lgico es invocar figuras que se enfrentaron a ella de manera harto significativa; as, quedan fijados para el lector de manera indeleble la inolvidable estampa de Jorge Luis Borges en su lecho de muerte, la reaccin del escritor Herv Guibert ante su enfermedad incurable, y los ltimos aos de un amigo de la adolescencia.
