El propsito de este estudio fue determinar la relacin entre las competencias clave y el logro acadmico de los estudiantes de educacin media superior tecnolgica en el estado de Nuevo Len, Mexico. Esta disertacin se fundament en las contribuciones e investigaciones realizadas desde el marco de una de las teoras contemporneas del capital humano (Richen y Sakganik, 2003). Desde esta concepcin, el capital humano es un factor importante para la explicacin de los niveles de logro acadmico. El capital humano es resultante de tres aspectos fundamentales, reconocidos en la literatura contempornea como competencias clave. Estas competencias clave son el lenguaje, el razonamiento formal y las habilidades matemticas. Desde este marco terico se formul la principal hiptesis de investigacin, la cual sostiene que las competencias clave son factores importantes en la explicacin del logro acadmico.
