Product Description Examines the history of rock music as reflected in the evolution of concerts and tours and describes how a rock concert is planned, promoted, and produced. From School Library Journal Grade 58 British imports on different aspects of the rock music scene, clearly and simply written and filled with fullcolor action photos of performers doing their thing. A variety of performance genres are highlighted in Concerts , including Live on Stage,'' Rock Tours,'' World Tours,'' and Festivals.'' The book also contains a very general description of how to stage shows and promote them. Music differentiates among rock genres such as Soul, Progressive, Heavy Metal, Punk, Reggae, and Hip Hop. The least effective of these entries is Stars , which adds little to most young readers' already extensive knowledge of Michael Jackson, Madonna, The New Kids on the Block, and Elvis. The best is Videos , which presents an informative overview of the field from the 1960s primitive promos'' of The Kinks and The Rolling Stones to the slick and costly creations from the MTV 1990s. It also discusses the process of making a video and the many types produced. The cover is a provocative picture of Madonna from her Blonde Ambition'' tour. Each volume contains a short, relevant glossary; a brief, dated reading list (the same one appears in all four); and an incomplete index. Because of the appealing graphics and easytoread text, the titles are selectively recommended for those needing supplementary coverage of popular subjects.
