Una frase que se pronunci hace muchos siglos atrs: Concete a ti mismo, todava tiene una vigencia que sorprende pues aunque crece grandemente el acerbo cientfico experimental, pareciera que el conocimiento que dan estas ciencias acerca del ser humano en general no basta para tener un conocimiento sobre la propia identidad. Las preguntas fundamentales las hemos dejado para despus. Preguntas como: Quin soy yo? Qu es vivir vida humana? Qu significa ser libre? Es posible la felicidad? A qu me refiero cuando digo te amo? Respeto a toda persona sin excluir a nadie? Otras preguntas tienen que ver con el papel que ejerce cada persona en la educacin de otro: Cmo debo educar a mi hijo o alumno? Para colaborar con esta bsqueda de la propia identidad en esta poca que vivimos, se escribi este libro. La elaboracin de los pensamientos aqu expuestos estn basados en la comparacin de dos visiones de persona con similitudes y diferentes, tal vez ms diferencias que similitudes. Ambas visiones parten de que el ser humano es libre. Estos dos modos de conceptualizar al ser humano se denominan a lo largo del libro como neoliberal y personalista.
