Los materiales cermicos son muy importantes tanto desde el punto de vista Cientfico como Tecnolgico, dada su relacin estructura propiedades, lo que ha permitido su uso en multiples aplicaciones. Desde los cermicos tradicionales hasta los avanzados, ellos son objeto de continua investigacin para potencializar su actual uso y generar nuevas funcionalidades, tal como ocurre en la nanotecnologa. La microestructura de los cermicos es determinante en la funcionalidad que ellos presentan. As, por ejemplo, los bordes de grano en piezas sinterizadas juegan un papel muy importante en el comportamiento elctrico que presentan algunos de los cermicos, entre ellos los varistores y los termistores. Estos ltimos pueden incrementar su resistencia con la temperatura, materiales con coeficiente positivo de temperatura (PTCR), o reducirla, materiales con coeficiente negativo de temperatura (NTCR). En este libro se presentan los resultados ms importantes obtenidos al estudiar el Titanato de Bario (BaTiO3)como material PTCR, considerando desde la sntesis de la materia prima, utilizando mtodos qumicos, as como su procesamiento cermico y su caracterizacin microestructural y elctrica.
