Los agricultores reconocen seis especies de rboles y arbustos que les sirven para pronosticar la calidad de la temporada de lluvias; en funcin de estas seales realizan acciones como adelantar las fechas de siembra, incrementar la cantidad de plantas por unidad de rea y aplicar insumos si la temporada parece favorable. 82% de ellos observan la Luna para fijar el inicio de siembra; las fases consideradas son creciente, cuarto creciente y llena. En la agricultura tradicional la diversidad gentica de los cultivos es muy importante. Es importante reconocer el valor de este conocimiento por estudiantes, profesores, tcnicos y publico en general, toda vez que se puede aprovechar el conocimiento tradicional y cientfico para crear estrategias de desarrollo agrcolas acordes con las condiciones de la agricultura tradicional.
