The book primarily discusses the sociocultural, demographic and economic characteristics of three major tribal groups, viz. Bodo, Rabha and Karbi residing in Guwahati City of Assam, India based on both primary and secondary data. It also focuses on the pattern of change among them in sociocultural and economic fronts. Further, while discussing social change, the book also examines the prevailing inter and intratribal variation in the degree and extent of change and the level of development among the tribes. Tha book altogether consists of six chapters. The first two chapters give a theoretical framework of the study and geographical background of Guwahati city. The third, fourth and fifth chapters discusses the prevailing demographic, social and economic characteristics and the pattern of social change among the tribal people of the city. Finally, a synthesis of the whole work including a few suggestions have been presented in chapter six.
