The staging of smallscale sports events is becoming increasingly popular as a strategy for economic diversification and development, particularly in regional communities where tourism is a key driver of the local economy. In many instances, corporate sponsorship revenue provided by small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs) is the financial lifeblood of these smallscale events. However, little research has paid attention to the management processes underpinning sponsorship agreements between SMEs and smallscale sport tourism events.
