Correctional Mental Health is a broadbased, balanced guide for students who are learning to treat criminal offenders in a correctional mental health practice. Featuring a wide selection of readings, this edited text offers a thorough grounding in theory, current research, professional practice, and clinical experience. It emphasizes a biopsychosocial approach to caring for the estimated 20% of all U.S. prisoners who have a serious mental disorder. Providing a balance between theoretical and practical perspectives throughout, the text also provides readers with a bigpicture framework for assessing current correctional mental health and criminal justice issues, offering clear strategies for addressing these challenges.

Essential for understanding correctional mental health
I bought this for my graduate studies in psychology, and it’s been a game changer. The transition from theory to best practices is well articulated. It covers a wide range of issues that professionals face in the field. Highly informative!

Great concepts but lacking detail
I found the theories in this book really interesting, but I wished some sections had more depth. The best practices are solid, but I had hoped for more case studies. Still, it provided a decent overview of mental health in corrections.

Good but a bit dry at times
I enjoyed the book for its content, but I found some sections to be a little dry. It’s informative, but I sometimes struggled to stay engaged with the writing style. Still, it’s a necessary read for the field!
