Since the discovery of antibacterial activity of prontosil, a dye, the field of synthetic antimicrobial research has taken great strides with a repertoire of agents available to treat bacterial and fugal infections. Increase in the number of immunocompromised agents and emergence of resistant strains though have provided an impetus for discovery of newer molecules belonging to different chemical classes. Coumarin has been reported to exhibit a range of biological activities. A number of coumarin based molecules have shown remarkable antibacterial activity. In the present work we report design synthesis and evaluation of a series some coumarin based Schiff's bases as potential antimicrobial agents. These molecules have been synthesized using simple chemical reactions and tested for invitro antimicrobial activity on gram +ve, gram ve bacteria and fungi.
