Mit der Entwicklung von Kreditderivaten als Mittel zur Handelbarkeit von Kreditrisiken entstand am Markt die Mglichkeit, von der klassischen BuyanholdStrategie von Krediten zu einem aktiven und risikooptimierenden Management berzugehen. Wenn von einem Boom am Kreditderivatemarkt gesprochen wird, wird damit in erster Linie das explosionsartige Wachstum der Nutzung dieser Finanzinstrumente beschrieben. Wachstumsraten von mehr als 100 % pro Jahr sind bei den Kreditderivaten keine Seltenheit. Der Markt ist weltweit binnen weniger Jahre von 318 Mrd. USD (2001) auf 26000 Mrd. USD (erstes Halbjahr 2006) gestiegen, das entspricht der enormen Steigerungsrate von 8176 % in 5 Jahren. Unter dem Begriff Kreditderivate wird eine ganze Reihe an Instrumenten zusammengefasst, die sich nicht nur im Aufbau und Ablauf unterscheiden, sondern auch unterschiedliche Risiken abdecken. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird nher auf das Instrument Credit Default Swap (CDS) eingegangen, das erst Anfang der neunziger Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts entwickelt wurde und mittlerweile den Markt fr Kreditderivate mit einem Marktanteil von ca. 70 % dominiert. Um einen Einstieg in das Thema zu erleichtern, wird das Instrument CDS in Kapitel 2 zunchst erlutert. Darber hinaus werden in den Kapiteln 3 und 4 insbesondere die Mglichkeit des Risikomanagements mit CDS und die unterschiedlichen Formen des Kreditereignisses aus der Sicht der Hauptakteure im CDSHandel, den Kreditinstituten, betrachtet. Kapitel 5 fasst die wichtigsten Anwendungsvoraussetzungen von CDS zusammen und beschftigt sich mit den Problemen, die derzeit
