Acclaimed theorist and social scientist Donna Jeanne Haraway uses the work of pioneering developmental biologists Ross G. Harrison, Joseph Needham, and Paul Weiss as a springboard for a discussion about a shift in developmental biology from a vitalismmechanism framework to organicism. The book deftly interweaves Thomas Kuhns concept of paradigm change into this wideranging analysis, emphasizing the role of model, analogy, and metaphor in the paradigm and arguing that any truly useful theoretical system in biology must have a central metaphor.

I was captivated by how the author connects metaphors to embryology in 'Crystals, Fabrics, and Fields.' It challenged my understanding of biological processes in a refreshing way. Highly recommend if you're open to new ideas!

Thought-Provoking Read!
I picked up 'Crystals, Fabrics, and Fields' to dive into how metaphors influence embryonic development. The insights are fascinating and really pushed me to think about science in a new way. A must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of philosophy and biology!

Packaging Issues, but Great Content
The book itself is great, but I was disappointed with how the package arrived; it had a few dents. The content is rich with information about metaphors in embryology, which I really enjoyed. Just wish it had been packaged better!

Not What I Expected
Honestly, I thought this book would be more straightforward science, but it delves deep into metaphors, which was not what I expected. While some may love this approach, I found it confusing at times. Not what I hoped for!

Interesting, but Dense
This book on metaphors shaping embryos is definitely interesting, but I found some sections a bit hard to get through. The concepts are heavy, and I had to re-read a few parts. Worth it for the knowledge, just be prepared to really focus!
