Als Vertreter postkolonialer Literatur fallen der kanadische Autor Timothy Findley und der Sdafrikaner J. M. Coetzee in mehrerer Hinsicht aus dem Rahmen. Ihre Herangehensweise erlaubt einen ungewohnten Blick auf den postkolonialen Diskurs: Nicht nur sind die beiden Autoren Nachkommen der ehemaligen Kolonialherren und somit von vorneherein in einer anderen Position als etwa Salman Rushdie oder V.S. Naipaul. Auffllig ist, dass Findley und Coetzee anders als die berwiegende Mehrheit postkolonialer Autoren nicht den Aspekt der kulturellen Identitt in den Vordergrund stellen. Ungewhnlicherweise verhandeln beide eine Vielzahl unterschiedlichster Machtdiskurse nebeneinander, ineinander verwoben, bereinander geschichtet: die koloniale Eroberung von Raum, Krper, Text. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht, inwiefern J.M. Coetzee und Timothy Findley kulturelle Akte als koloniale Definitionsgesten inszenieren.
