Este libro ofrece un anlisis de la imagen que se fundamenta en el planteamiento de que los modos de ser y el conjunto de preferencias, actitudes, paradigmas y costumbres estn plasmados en las fotografas, en las que la sociedad ha representado, histricamente, roles sociales claramente definidos. Este trabajo plantea una relectura sobre un corpus fotogrfico signado por el gnero, en el que se aprecia una predeterminacin hacia las identidades sexuales donde algunos de sus componentes pueden ser considerados hoy indeseables. Los estudios de gnero se basan en un carcter construido y no natural de los comportamientos, personalidades y roles donde se estructura la constitucin social de un orden simblico que genera tales identidades a travs de procesos culturales; esta premisa se aborda de forma pormenorizada en los primeros captulos de este estudio. Y es por ello que la aplicacin de algunos aspectos metodolgicos incluyen autores de los campos de la sociologa, antropologa social, semitica, esttica y de la historia del arte; es decir, se ha propuesto un trabajo analtico interdisciplinario, donde el hilo conductor son diversos exmenes de las fotografas seleccionadas.
