In schwierigen konjunkturellen Zeiten ist Zielgruppenmarketing sogar essentiell, um sich von seiner Konkurrenz abzusetzen. Ein effektives Customer Targeting identifiziert diejenigen Kunden, die fr das Unternehmen mglichst gewinnbringend sind. Hierzu sind relevante Daten moderner ERPSysteme und eingegliederter Unternehmensdatenbanken notwendig. Mit Hilfe dieser Daten knnen dann taktische und strategische Managemententscheidungen verifiziert werden, Zusammenhnge zwischen Marketingaktionen und dem Zielerreichungsgrad erkannt und Ursachen bei Zielabweichung festgestellt werden. Das Problem besteht darin, dass aufgrund der rasanten Zunahme von Datenquellen und den darin enthaltenden Daten viele Unternehmen zunehmend damit kmpfen, diese Daten zu verarbeiten. Normale Analysemethoden zur Auswertung stoen dabei schnell an ihre Grenzen, was den Einsatz komplexer Instrumente und Verfahren zur effizienten Analyse dieser Datenflle erfordert, um relevantes Wissen zu generieren. Das Beispiel von Tesco, einer Supermarktkette in Grobritannien, verdeutlicht das Potenzial eines effektiven Customer Targeting. Im Rahmen der Strategieanpassung fand der Konzern heraus, dass in einer typischen Filiale die 100 besten Kunden den gleichen Umsatz wie die 4000 schlechtesten generierten. Zudem wurde deutlich, dass die schlechtesten 25 Prozent der Konsumenten fr nur zwei Prozent des Absatzes und die besten fnf Prozent der Kunden fr 20 Prozent des Absatzes verantwortlich waren.
